Button Necklace and Earring Sets

I'm really delighted with these new sets. They came about in a strange way though. I bought these boxes for my button cluster necklaces, but I was obviously suffering from a brain fog the day I ordered them because when they arrived they didn't fit. Not one to waste money or supplies I knew I had to make something new to fit in these pretty boxes.

I have been making the necklaces for a while but I've never made this style of earring before. They are more difficult to make than the necklaces as it involves search for 9 matching buttons; 3 for each piece. This may sound simple but all my buttons are mismatched, so it's quite time consuming. Even though I have thousands of buttons left I'm fast running through my supply of bright matching buttons of this size. I made 12 sets, but I'm positive I'll make more after I restock in supplies, I'd say these will be popular as gifts for Christmas; there are a lot of fellow button addicts out there.

Again sorry for the dodgy photos, it would have been nice to shoot these on a model, but time is precious at the moment.

Button Necklaces

I had an idea a while back that I wanted to make button necklaces to match my button rings, but I wasn't sure how to do it. I wanted them to be a pendant style, so I knew I needed something to attached them to so that they could be joined to a chain. I remebered a pair of earrings I bought about a year ago that had an embellishment glued onto a disc with a hook. Armed with this vague description I started Googling and eventually found what I was looking for...these little guys below...

These essential parts arrived in the post yesterday morning and I couldn't resist clearing my days plans and playing with lots of buttons. I salvaged some buttons from a hair clip experiment that went badly wrong, and I mixed and matched them with some new buttons I bought recently. I also had some ball chain left over from making shrink plastic necklaces.

I really like how they turned out; they are simple, bold, and effective. They also work well with the button rings to wear as a mismatched set. Illustrated Necklaces

I started making a whole new range of shrink plastic necklaces. Here are just a selection of some of the images, but if you want to see all 50 designs go to my facebook album here. They come with a ball chain necklace, and they are a perfect stocking filler at only €6 a pop. If anyone has a special request for custom drawn pictures just let me know. I listed a few of them in my etsy shop, and the Bowie necklace sold just after 5 minutes after listing it...very exciting!

Bettyoctopus Necklace: A Lesson in Self Gifting

I did pretty well selling badges to the kids at the Limerick Show at the weekend so I decided to spoil myself to a little gift from a fellow seller. I've been eyeing up these necklaces from Bettyoctopus for ages. I love them and knew I would buy one eventually, and what better time than after a long days work.

Jess Byrne is actually a neighbour of mine, I met her originally through John as he is a very good friend of her brother-in-law. But over the past year I've gotten to know her much better through all things crafty and she had a large role in the pop-up shop that we ran in Limerick this year. She makes beautiful brooches from felt, little adorable artworks, and these lovely necklaces. She also has a full time job and a daughter, I really don't know where she finds the time!
