The Great Pitt Unveiling

At long last I can reveal the artwork that I did for the album cover of The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra, as it's being released this month. It feels like it's been ages since I was actually working on these images, and it's so exciting to know that the finished item is coming out really soon. I haven't actually held the cd in my hands yet but I've been told it looks super snazzy. It's a 12 page fully illustrated booklet ( don't think I can reveal those pieces until it's in the shops) based around the black white and red monochrome I've been using for their artwork for the past few years.
They are an 8 piece band that sound like a mix between Belle and Sebastian, Phantom of the Opera and a bit on Tom Waits. So I wanted to play on these theatrical and whimsical attributes in the design, while also keeping with their classy image (all the band members wear 3 piece suits on stage, accented by a flapper style leading lady).I've also been involved with all the merchandise aswell, I've made up custom made badges, bottle openers, and magnets, along with their posters and t-shirt design. They also decided to showcase the artwork by getting some moo postcard printed of the images from the album. All of these lovely bits and bobs will be available through their website and at their nationwide tour of gigs. I will also be having a giveaway of their album on this blog very shortly, so stay tuned for details.

New Tweaks to Blog Design, and a Spot of Knitting

Oh I'm so impressed with the new layout function that they introduced on blogspot today. I've been wanting to change the blog for ages, but there were a few little things that I couldn't get right. I think I'm most impressed with how much better the tabs look now, and I totally love the rounded edges. I know they are only little things but the designer in me is a happy camper now because of them!
I was inspired by all the knitting needles I have lying about the studio at the moment, and while I was watching a particularly unentertaining film the other night I decided to try my hand at a bit of knitting. Weridly I've been hoarding wool since I was 15 (that was the last time I knitted) so I had a few balls to choose from, I went for this crazy electric pink. After digging out my craft book to remind me how to cast on I was away and happily knitting for the evening. I used the circular needles so I can made a snood(here's a picture in case you're not sure what a snood is), so at least it will be functional. I've already decided that when I'm finished I want to make myself some sleeves/wristlets. I don't profess to be a great or fast knitter, but it's nice to do it while watching a cheesy crime drama, and just let my brain go to sleep for a while. I doubt I'll turn into an avid knitter like all of my Aunts, but there something nice about putting on a cozy scarf that you know you've made yourself., here's hoping I get it finished by Winter!!

Graphic Design for Brad Pitt..

Today I was doing sketches for the new Brad Pitt Light Orchestra (BPLO) album. I've done work for them before, some posters and single covers, and we have a good working relationship. They want to stay with their black white and red colour scheme as it suits the dramatic caberet feel to this seven piece band. I'm working on a series of drawing of the band members, in pen, which I will be later scanning in to play with composition. It's been hard work but I feel it coming together and I'm quite excited about what I'm gonna do with it.
There album will be released in the next few months ,and I will be doing their t-shirt designs too, which should be lots of fun.
The above is a poster I did for them a while ago.
