Facebook...does it work?

I'm curious, I'm thinking of setting up a facebook fanpage and I was wondering if any of you have tried it? I keep on hearing in the forums on Etsy that it's really good for sales and it's avery effective way of driving traffic towards your shop. But there are lots of things that work for some people and not others, so I thought I would ask you guys too. I know it's not too much extra effort but I don't want to spread myself too thinly and not have enough time to make things.

Also if you have fan pages, you can leave links here as a comment and I'll come have a look.

It's not as user friendly as I would like, but once you get the hang of it it is helpful for posting quick updates to fans.

it's like anything else though, you have to have the time to devote to it.

it's quicker than writing a blog post for me. :P

  3. i think it works when you advertise with them - I havn't tried it but have heard of ppl who have made great sales becuase you can ask facebook only to target a specific audience - ie 18-40, interested in art etc....therefore it goes straight to the people you want to see it!

i have gotten sales from mine - but it took 6 months to get 300+ fans and alot of word of mouth! :)

  4. I have a page too - and I have had sales through it, but I just can't find the time to maintain it and keep posting - same reason my blog is dead :( Must get moving!!!! I think it could be well worth it if you have the time to keep it up.

  5. Hi Ruth - It's definitely a good idea - I set one up about 8 months ago. I use facebook alot to chat with friends and once they became fans their friends did too . I've gotten lots of sales and orders from it.
The only drawbacks are that when people leave comments or questions you don't get notification , like you do on your personal page. So you need to check your photo comments regularly.

  6. I get about 15% traffic from Facebook so yea I believe it works. I get 19% from Twitter. It's easy to set up.

  7. Thanks everyone, your comments were really helpful...it's harder than I thought to figure it out, but I'd say it will make sense eventually....now to find that button to put on my blog that links to my page...

  8. Hey there! This is 'meljensdesigns' from the Etsy forums. I had a similar topic going there--it's actually how I found your blog! :-) I opened a fan page a while back for my previous artistic direction (clipart for a design company), and now I am only designing digital stamp singles, so I have neglected my page somewhat. I really love blogging and 'tweeting'. It's much more personal. I think it's all really based on your style and what you love to do! :-) Good luck.
