Window Painting

So what have I been up to in the last month? Apart from not writing for my blog I've been trying to get things organised for the grand opening of Limerick Craft & Design. One of the many things I did was paint the window to drum up a bit of enthusiasm about the project. What had initially been quite a simple idea in my head became a little more complicated when I added polka dots into the equation; they take time to measurepaint and then paint around.

It involved lots of fag breaks for Orla who was there with me shampooing the carpet, so I took photos during these painting pit stops. Here they are....

Painting Limerick Craft and Design

It's been a busy couple of weeks for me and the craft co-op that I'm part of, we've been painting the shop space and all of the units. I'm a total novice when it comes to DIY, or rather I was until I got a crash course by being thrown into the deep end.

We are at the very end stage when just a few bits need an extra lick of paint, the floor needs clearing and darned good hoovering. It's been a great experience seeing this coming together so well, it's been such a long time at the planning stage I can't quite believe it's happening. I must say though that I had no idea how much hard work painting is!! I feel like I've been in the gym 24/7 with all the stretches and squats that I'm doing.

For anyone who is a new reader this 'project' I'm talking about is Limerick Craft & Design, a craft co-op made up of 35 different Limerick based crafters and designers. I've been heading the project for about 9 months trying to get everything organised, and we will be opening very shortly on Sarsfield St. For more info head over to the website and Facebook page.

Update: We are running a competition on the page at the moment where you can win a €100 voucher, just like Limerick Craft & Designs page and share this photo to gain an extra entry...easy peasy!

My Work in Truly Gifted in Mallow

Truly Gifted in a fantastic shop that was set up recently in Mallow by husband and wife team Majella and Bart Spang. Majella has been making beautiful glass work under the name Delicious Art Glass and was frustrated with the set up of selling to shops that take half the sale price as commission, and was also fed up with the attitudes at markets where people expect everything as cheap as chips(see my rant about this here). Majella got involved with the pop up shop that I ran earlier this year, and it confirmed her suspicions that this was the way to go. Herself and Bart bravely set out on getting themselves a venue in Mallow, I'm amazed at the work that they put in and how quickly they managed to get it together.

The way it works is that the crafts people involved rent the space from them, prices are dependent on the amount of space that you get. With the idea being that you pay a flat rate, and don't pay any more even if you have a really good week with sales. I'm not sure if they have any more space left, but if you are interested just go here to have a look at the T&C's.You can see the list of artists and crafters here on the website, I know that when I popped into the shop I wanted to buy just about everything.
