Blog Tweaking

In a further attempt to make this blog a little more user friendly I have added some new labels down the side to try to help catagorize the clutter that was forming in the sidebar. I would love to be able to afford a total redesign making this a .com address and cleaning the blog into handy tabs. But for the meantime this will have to suffice. Hopefully it makes all the items a bit clearer. I also tried to install one of those animated cloud tags that rotates when you float over it but it wouldn't load. Maybe I was stretching my techy ability. I've been chatting with a few people lately about the whole website/blog thing. I have a website that I built myself a couple of years ago, it's really terrible and I have no clue how to edit it. I paid a grand to learn how to build it, I just wish I would have had the sense to use that money to pay someone else to build it. Back then I had no clue about blogs, starting one then would have been much better, and then I would have had a better idea of what I needed from a website. The coarse I did was really terrible and left me with no useful knowledge on how to build a decent website. I'm a little mortified to link to it, but here you go, click and have a giggle....have some pity it was my first and only attempt.

Happy Monday Prize Giveaway

I've been a little disorganised as of late, and it only occured to me that I haven't had a giveaway since New Years...how terrible!! The supplies giveaway seemed pretty popular last time so I think I'll repeat that idea, but I'll also let the winner choose stuff from my other etsy shop too. So the prize is $25 worth of goodies from Nice Day Supplies or Nice Day Designs, or a mix and match if you like.
So as usual the rules are that you must be a follower of the blog to enter the draw, and also please leave a comment on this post...and I will announce the prize on the 22nd of March.

As always I would kindly ask the winner to mention me on their blog or twitter(or whatever flavour of social networking that you prefer), this is an international giveaway, so no need to worry I will ship the prize to the back of beyond if that's where you live!

Good luck everyone :)

I Caved and Joined Facebook

I eventually caved and I joined facebook. I've been hearing so much about it in the forums on Etsy that I thought I would give it a shot. It ends here though, I will not join twitter. I'm already starting to feel a little bit of social networking burnout between the 2 shops, 2 blogs, my own facebook page and a fanpage. I know other people do a lot more but I still want to have time to make things...and oh have a life too.
When I was setting it up I found it a bit clunky, and it's pretty annoying that I can't sign on seperate from my personal account. When I eventually connected to the 'My Etsy' tab though it works a lot better. I'm rather impressed with the live feed to my blog too. Hopefully this drive more traffic/sales etc and make everything link together a bit better. There are loads of people I know who are on facebook who are otherwise internet/computer clueless so maybe it will reach a different market.

So if you wanna become a fan click here, or go to the shiny new button I made for my sidebar.

Note: I love this picture, I typed in internet networking into getty images and this is what popped up...I love it!

New Markets

I'm gonna be a busy bee over the next few weeks. I just got confirmation today that I'll be doing the markets in UL over the Christmas. So any of you fine folk who are studying hard over December, pop into the courtyard between 11pm and 5pm every Tuesday. I'm also meant to be taking part in a market being held in the Art College in Claire St. That's meant to be 9th Dec, but I havn't heard much about it so I'm waiting to confirm that. I'll also be doing 'show your business' on Friday 11th December in Bank of Ireland on O Connell St, in Limerick. It sounds kinda odd to be honest, basically I stand about the bank all day trying to sell my lovely wares to customers. It could be good, it could be dire, hard to tell with something like that. On top of all that I'll still be doing the Sunday Market every week!! Hopefully this year we will get a permit extension and be able to sell every day on Bedford Row in the week coming up to Christmas, but I'll hear more about that tomorrow.
Somewhere in there I've to squeeze in time to go to 2 weddings, a birthday party, do all my Christmas shopping, oh and make things too!! To be honest I'm really glad things are busy, the way all the talk was going I was starting to think there would be no Christmas rush, and that Santa may have been killed by either swine flu or the recession.

Bad Day

We had a bit of a bad day yesterday, we were burgled while I was in bed asleep. I'm feeling better about it today but yesterday I was very angry and more than a little bit freaked out. John had popped into town in the morning and I pressed the snooze button to get a little extra shut eye. While I was in the land of nod, some people shouldered in our front door, and got away with both of my digital cameras and Johns MP3 player, about 900 euro worth of stuff (about $1200). I don't know how I slept through the whole thing, usually the slightest noise wakes me up, but I had trouble sleeping the night before so I was shattered and out to the world. I'm pretty glad I wasn't pottering around the house when they came in God knows what would have happened.
John tried to make me feel better by saying 'don't worry it won't happen again, what are the odds of getting robbed twice'...but funnily enough a few years ago I was robbed twice in the space of 24hrs.

I know it was a random event, and it will take me a while to totally relax and not listen out for odd noises while I'm trying to sleep. It could have been a whole lot worse, so I have to count myself lucky.

Insomnia

I had a very weird bout of insomnia last night and I have yet to sleep. On the upside I was up (VERY) bright and early and I just figured out how to fix my buggy problems with yahoo and facebook, so now I can reply to emails at long last!!
Today I think I'll make some headway with some wedding invitations I'm making for friends of mine. 100 invitations all indiviually handmade and unique from each other, but using the same palette of papers to design them. I actually find it far more interesting to do this then to repeat the same process 100 times.
I might just treat myself to an extended nap later I'm still feeling truely awful

My (very exciting) News

I'm so excited!! I've been bursting to tell my news but I had to wait on the confirmation call this morning. I'm moving house....YEY! For the past 5 years I've been living in a city centre small two bedroom apartment, it has a tiny kitchen come living room and very small bedrooms. But on the upside it had a partly converted attic space that I've used for work. It's been cute and charming, otherwise I never would have stayed so long. But in the past year as the business has expanded it's been a bit of a nightmare space-wise. Also since John moved in over a year ago I've wanted to make it more homely, have friends round for dinner, but we haven't heen able to(we have no room for a kitchen table!).
So for the past couple of months we have been vaguely talking of moving, but with no great urgency. But last week I just got a bee in my bonnet about the space and I started looking online, and the second place we looked at was really stunning. With the changes in the economy it has meant a drop in rent prices, so we could afford to rent a large two bedroom town house. It has:

Large front room
Living/dining Room
Large Bedroom(with a wall of windows!)
Small bathroom
Tiny Kitchen(more of that later)
Small yard
Spectacular master bedroom with original stonework walls and wooden beams
Storage space in a garage at the back
Working Fireplace

You can understand my excitement. So this morning I signed for it and handed in the deposit. We will be moving in on April 1st. But before that we have the mamoth task of moving our insane amount of stuff. Let me explain. I'm a hoarder, I've been doing visual art for 8 years, I've lived here for 5, I work from home, my business is based on collecting things to recycle them, John works from home, and he hoards books and dvds. That all adds up to us have truck loads of stuff....oh and we don't have a car, oh and we live on the third floor....it will be interesting. But it's all worth it because we will have a great living space, and I'm using the larger bedroom as my studio so at last I will have a fantastic space to work in.
Ps: It used to be an office, so the kitchen is the size of a broom closet, but I'm deeply in love with the house so I'll forgive it's warts and wrinkles.

Busyness pre Christmas

Well it seems I've turned into a crazy busy worker bee, and a few things have suffered because of it. First to go my will to clean the flat, it was never that strong in the first place so I'm no too surprised. Second was my love of blogging, which I gave up unwillingly. I suspect I will be working 7 days a week until Christmas. Between now doing 2 market days, working in a busy restaurant and making all of my stock I definitely won't be idle. Somewhere in there I've to squeeze in a a design for a brochure, a single cover, and I may be doing 2 additional Christmas fairs in the University of Limerick. During last week I got some amazing news that I will be featured on tv with my clothes. More news will follow later when I have concrete dates. But lets just say I have to transform my flat and studio into a presentable place of work, at the moment it looks like its post burglury. So at present I'm really excited that things are going so well and my stuff is selling. But I lie awake at night stressing that I won't be able to keep it up and all my dizzying spinning plates will crash to the ground.
In short: I'm happy but stressed to the gills.
