What I'm Wearing: Check Shirtdress

This is a bit more casual and sloppy look than my normal outfit posts, but I was quite hungover and I just wanted to wear something really comfy. Also wearing the headscarf meant I didn't have to wash my hair, this made for a pretty good 'feeling delicate' outfit. I know it's not the most flattering shaped shirt in the world but I'm not always concerned with the idea that I should look like the slimmest version of myself at all times. There is a really great article that discusses this pressure to always look 'your best', often times at the expense of self expression or feeling comfortable. I like dressing the way I want, on some days that might be a waist hugging dress, other times it's my knee length Beno jumper with clompy boots, what's important to me is feeling happy in my own skin and having fun with my clothes.

I got the shirt for only €5 in a mad 'everything is a fiver' sale in The 'Design Outlet' on William street. They also had jeans for only €10 that I very nearly bought, but after reading this article on how to get great pair of jeans I didn't give into the temptation of the bargain. When I was really honest with myself I could see that they were nice on the ass and legs but the waist was way too low for my shape, I never would have been comfortable in them.
Runners- fake converse from Pennies €8
Sunglasses- Pennies €3
Shirt- The design outlet €5
Belt-Pennies €3
Nail varnish-L'Oreal (602) free from my friend Casha
Ring- from the Milk Market, it crazily only cost €1!!
Head Scarf- free, I made it from a scrap of fabric and I made the button clips myself
Earrings- free to me as I made them, but I normally charge €10

Whole outfit only €20( or €30 if I was to buy the earrings from myself??!)

Glasses, n' Hats, and Bargains, Oh My!

I caught the bargain bug earlier in the week on my pound shop shopping spree. I was wandering down Cruises Street when I bumped into my friend Dee who works in Claire's Accessories, in a super nice moment she shortened her lunch break to accompany me on a little browse around their sale. You can get 10 items for €10, how could I pass up an offer like that??! At first glance I thought I wasn't going to see enough that I liked but after a bit of rummaging and trying on every hat in the shop I found lots of hidden goodies.

It's kinda embarrassing to admit that I bought hipster glasses but I fell in love with these so I bought them, and a little part of me died on the inside. I do actually need to get real glasses quite badly, I just need to save up a few quid and make an appointment. I'll ask if I can get lenses put into these frames, apparently that's something that they can do. I lost my large brown sunglasses last year, I already have a great pair of duck egg ones but they don't suit brown clothes so I needed a new pair. These are large and fabulous but don't have any bling on them, which I really dispise.

I also got these two hats, they are not the normal style that I go for but I thought I could risk being adventurous at that price. The larger brown hat will go really well with a floaty Summer dress. I'm not so thrilled about the monstrous bobble on the beige one, but I can replace it with something much nicer very easily.

On top of all that I picked up some plain hair bands(10 in total), I've been meaning to order a bunch online for ages as I want to make button hair bands. I also got a pair of laces black tights(you can never have to many pairs of tights!) and two bottles of crackle nail polish. I've never tried using them before, but I've gotten into painting my nails lately so I thought I would give it a bash, they are lovely shades of cerulean blue and lime green.

As I said I got all this for €10, the sale price would have been about €40 but Dee said that the total original price would have been over €90!!

What I'm Wearing: 90's Flashback

After my marathon of watching My So Called Life I put together this homage to the Angela Chase look (I'm not really young enough or brave enough to dress like Rayanne Graff). I picked up these denim shorts on sale in A-Wear for only a fiver, they are somewhere between nice and old lady, but they are in fashion so I kinda get away with it. As soon as I put them on with some black tights I knew they had to go with my Docs, hence the MSCL outfit.

At heart I'm still a grunge girl so this aesthetic might be making a reappearance in the near future. It brought back memories of watching my video of Singles repeatedly, making mix tapes for my friends(and drawing artwork for them), saving up my pocket money so I could buy posters, docs, new cds, and books. I was one of those teenagers that hung around Central Bank near Temple Bar every Saturday, it seems like a million years ago, I suppose it kinda was.

Shoes: Free, I did a swap with a friend
Shorts: A-Wear €5 on sale
Vest: Dunnes €2
Top: Pennies €7
Belt: Free with some trousers
Necklace: a 30th birthday present from a friend
Bag: tweed satchel Pennies €4
Ring: button ring made by me €5
Jacket: checker jacket charity shop €10
Hat: Claire's Accessories €2

Outfit Total: €35

What I'm Wearing: Brown Floral Dress

It's been a long while since I did a What I'm Wearing post, so I thought I would take a pic of this outfit while I had it on. As you know I love clashing prints, so I jazzed up this dress I've had for years with this wide sleeved blouse I picked up last week. I used to wear loads of brown, but now looking at my wardrobe I don't have that much of it anymore, looking at this rusty mixes I must keep an eye out for some more as I quite like it with my hair(which went a shade redder last week).

I'm sure you saw the button necklace post I did already, well this was it's first airing, I'll probably wear it against something plainer in the future but I just couldn't resist the colour combination.

The shoes were a great find, I got them at the Milk Market from my friend Sarah for only €5, aren't they yummy? Herself and another friend Malou did a clear out of their wardrobes and sold their finer pieces, I picked up lots of great goodies from them.

Dress: A-Wear €5, I got it years ago, it's super comfy
Blouse: Pennies €5 in the sale
Belt: Free with another top
Shoes: Milk Market €5
Necklace: made by me, this is the prototype, I've no idea if I'll make more or what I'll charge

Outfit total: €15
Recessionista brownie points: 1,000 000

What I'm Wearing: Monochrome Charity Shop Find

It's been a while since I did an outfit post; I been lazy with blogging and lazy taking photos, tut tut. But I had to show you this amazing jacket that I picked up in a charity shop recently for only €10! It's one of those loose shapeless designer jackets that look great with a belt. It really reminded me of my friend Cecily when I saw it, she wears these all the time. I love the asymmetry of it, and the neckline can be worn a numbver of ways. It can be worn open too, but to be honest I think I'm too short and curvy to get away with that.

Please ignore how awful I look in this second photo, I just wanted to show what I was wearing underneath. I love matching monochrome patterns with a splash of colour. This yellow t-shirt is backless, so you could see the red and white stripes through the back.

I always have to remind myself to wear my own work, it's like I take it for granted. But I thought this Polaroid ring went really well with the monochrome with a splash of colour look that I was going for.( I sell these at my stall on Sundays for €5 each)

I'm in love with my new shoes! My friend Jasmine from the market(she makes amazing skincare products, go like her page!) did a swap with me. She had these Doc Marten dolly shoes that she was never able to break in properly, and I had 8 hole Docs that were too narrow for me. I love swapping, it means getting amazing stuff for free while getting rid of unwanted stuff.

Skirt:Blue skirt with pockets €5 Pennies
T-Shirt: Yellow backless t-shirt €7 Pennies
T-Shirt: Red and white striped t-shirt €5 Dunnes
Shoes: Free from Jasmine!!
Jacket: Charity shop(Mrs.Quinn on William St) €10
Brooch: One of my own €10, I thought it brought the yellow red and grey together really well.
Ring: Also a Nice day Designs creation, €5
Necklace: button necklace I got at the barbootsale for €1
Belt: red belt that I'm addicted to wearing €3 Pennies

1980's Costume

This is the result of all my 80's research at the weekend, my friend described it as 'things people wore in the 80's, but all at the same time'. Most of it I found in my wardrobe, all I had to buy was the yellow t-shirt and some jewellery.
  • Yellow neon flower hairband; Claire's Accessories €6 but part of a 3 for 2 deal.
  • Geometric dangle earrings; Claires accessories €6 part of the 3 for 2 deal
  • 2 beaded necklaces: Pennies €3 each
  • Backless yellow t-shirt; Pennies €6
  • Red long sleeved t-shirt: Dunnes €6
  • Vintage A-wear jacket: I bought it a few years ago in Dublin and never wore it, but now it will be leaving my dress up box and I'll be wearing it on a regular basis, I love it. I think it was around €25 and it came with a pair of trousers.
  • Red Belt: Pennies €3
  • 3 Bracelets: Claire's accessories approx €5
  • Blue skirt with pockets; Pennies approx. €5
  • Red tights: Pennies €3
  • The legwarmers are years old, I can't remember where I bought them
  • I had to buy these white shoes after I damaged them in a fashion show that I had, I never wore them but I knew they would come in handy some day! €10

 Yellow and green eye-shadow; yikes!
Sharon(on the right) had an amazing costume but I have no decent photos of her, shiny tracksuit, with a cassette walkman and a side ponytail; classy bird!
The birthday boy as a 'wanna be Don Johnson' with Dolly Parton
I love this purple leopard print dress, with Curehead Paul
Dawn dressed as herself in the 80's, I was understandably obsessed with her hat!

What I'm Wearing: A Head Scarf

I saw this Pin last week on Pinterest of a girl wearing a 1950's style head scarf and decided I wanted to take the leap and try it. I've always thought they were adorable but wasn't sure if I could pull it off.  I think I managed it pretty well, I wore it with casual clothes sans make-up on my way down town to meet a friend for coffee. But I think it would also look great with a little make-up and some red lippy and eyeliner.

Ages ago I watched this fantastic hair tutorial on Youtube(which I quite obviously didn't do) but part of it was advice on how to tie a head scarf. She recommended that you use two clips at the side to hold it in place. I used matching red button hair clips, how predictable am I? As my hair is quite fine I used a couple of slide to boost the front of my hair just a little bit so it didn't look too flat. I also pulled out a few scraggly bits at the ears to messy it up a bit. The scarf itself was just a bit of scrap fabric I had lying about the place.

By the way the glasses are from Pennies, what a find! They were only a few quid, and they are the cutest shade of duck egg blue.

What I'm Wearing; Polka Dot Pencil Skirt

I've been looking for a pencil skirt for ages, and also a polka dot skirt, and then magically I found two in one! I like clashing patterns, especially spots with stripes, it as a little to too chilly to wear this sloppy backless top without something underneath; the stripes seemed like an obvious choice.

If you are wondering what on earth I'm standing beside, it's a 10 foot light box made by my incredibly talented friend Norma Lowney. It's a wall paper pattern silk screened onto tracing paper, and mounted in a large box, I use it as a large lamp in the evening.

Boots: €10 ,charity shop
Skirt: €11 Pennies
Top: striped top years ago in Dunnes €6
Top: Black loose backless t-shirt Pennies €8
Button Bracelet: Magpie and Button €20
Button Necklace: €1 at a flea market
Hat: €2 in Claire's Accessories
Belt: €3 Pennies

What I'm Wearing: Red and Black Dress

I tried to do a what I'm wearing post about this dress before but the photos were pretty awful so I didn't want to post it, and since I've posted a few less than lovely pics of myself already that's saying a lot for how bad they were! I bought this dress in The Edge, where I also got this dress, to wear on Christmas day. As it's made of t-shirt material its super comfy, which gave me lots of room to stuff my face with festive tasty things. Funnily enough I ended up going out for dinner the day I took this picture too (in Marco Polo, and it wasn't too bad either).

Dress: The Edge €30
Shoes: Schuh €110
Ring: My own design, retails at €5
Haircut; Free, I did it myself on Tuesday and just paid €6 in my local chemist for the dye, can you tell I'm flat broke at the moment??

What I'm Wearing: Retro Floral Dress

I wore this new dress out the other night for John's birthday, a little dressy for a Tuesday night but it's new so I REALLY wanted to wear it. I was sick a few weeks ago and was unable to go for lunch with my Mum while she was visiting. So instead she popped over with a voucher for The Edge and told me to buy something nice, aren't Mothers amazing? The Edge is my favourite clothes shop, it's the only place in Limerick to buy alternative clothes, the prices are great, and it's in the Milk Market so I'm there every week(which is pretty dangerous).

It's a really well structured dress so it holds and sucks in all the right places. It's a little shorter than I normally wear but the netting makes it seem longer. It was a total steal at only €29! This is the first time I've gone for this retro looking hair style, but I'll definitely do it again as it was super easy. I took this pic before putting on my red lipstick, with that the ensemble looked very retro.

Dress: The Edge at an amazing €29
Earrings: Vintage from Alexia McInerny at a vintage fair for €10
Shoes: Leavys for €10 plus red ribbon in Hickeys €2
Tights: Polka dot tights in Debenhams €6

What I'm Wearing: Stripes

This is a rarity, a what I'm wearing post where I have make-up on. I've only started wearing in again over the past year or so, but since my skin is so sensitive I really only do it about once every two months of so. Otherwise my skin would be even worse than it already is...darned allergies!

These are some oldies that I dug out of the closet, I vaguely remember getting the dress in Dunnes and the waistcoat in Pennies, but it's so long ago I've no idea how much I paid for them. For once I remembered to wear some of my own creations, adding a splash of red with a button ring and one of my brooches.

I wore this the other night when I went to see Wallis Bird in Dolans. Firstly I'd like to thank my friend Peter who gave me the tickets at the last minute as he couldn't make it to the gig. He works for Spin South-West and interviewed Wallis earlier that day, he said that she was incredibly friendly and down to earth.

This was absolutely fantastic, she has an amazing voice, and a really energetic band that suit the music perfectly. Her fans all seem to be uber fans, with most of the crowd knowing all the lyrics to her songs, which made for an electric atmosphere.

What I'm Wearing: A Bow Blouse

I'm feeling a bit brave after my week of sickness. All last week I wore horrible but very comfy clothes, I couldn't wear a bra most of the time because of my tattoo, which I meant was wallowing in frumpsville. I woke up feeling human today and I wanted to wear something girly.

I'm loving the bow blouses I've been seeing lately but I wanted to buy a good quality vintage one and not one on the high street. I was delighted when I found this royal blue/purple one at the Friday Flea Market, and because I'm a trader I got it for a bargain at only €6! These blouses do have the potential to be become boring conventional office wear, which really doesn't suit me. So I decided to do something a bit daring and dress in all one colour(apart from the fact that I don't have a blue belt of shoes). I find it pretty funny that I have to go to the bank today to sort out a business account for the shop, John thought I was dressing up for them!
Shoes: Black pumps from New Looks €8
Tights: Blue tights Pennies €3
Skirt: Pleated blue skirt with pockets Pennies €5
Belt: Free in a bag of clothes my sister gave me
Blouse: Purple bow blouse The Friday Flea Market €6
